Well, today wasn't all that adventurous, especially compared to the weekend.
The day recapped:
Woke up.
Found my key, which has been MIA for a week. Turns out it was in the pocket of a pair of shorts I forgot I wore. I was pretty excited. I even made a really long key chain/lanyard for it so this won't happen again.
Showered. While listening to lovely 80's music. Well, maybe "lovely" isn't the right word. "Awesome" might be a better choice of word.
Checked the bank account. No more money than last time I checked.
Rode bike to see if I could apply at Pizza Hut, which had a sign out saying they're hiring. Turns out they have an online application. I don't like those. I'd rather get out of the apartment. And they're so impersonal.
Went to the grocery store and bought two potatoes, strawberries, and an orange. Pasta gets a little dull.
Came home.
Went to work. It was very boring in the dish room.
Went to a couple stores with my friend/previous roomie in search of an outfit for her to wear to her cousin's wedding. Success.
Blogging.
Rather dull, eh?
But, in between all the exciting and fun bits of the day, I've been thinking about how music is such an influence in life. No matter how you feel, there's a song out there that fits your mood perfectly.
From this weekend: "Alone" by Heart. "Silver Springs" Fleetwood Mac. "The Flame" Cheap Trick. "Watching You Watch Him" Eric Hutchinson. "Ho Hey" The Lumineers.
From today: Journey. Foreigner. The Cars. Yes. Tears for Fears. Various other 80's music of awesomeness.
Anyways... Music is super important to me. It's probably like that for a lot of you out there. It can make your day or night so much better. It has this crazy ability to call up memories, welcome or not. Like whenever I hear the song "Hotel California", I always think of the ride to the airport when I was leaving for Germany. Or other songs make me think of people. Any Andy Grammer songs make me think of my old roommate Ary. And this is just a small sample. I love music and all the crazy things it does to your head and heart. I think that's it for today. This whole post was a lot more eloquent in my head... anyways... The end.

Life in the Fast Lane
Holy cow, what a weekend!
Friday after work, I hung out with a bunch of friends from the FLSR (a.k.a the coolest housing place ever- the foreign language student residence). We watched "Back to the Future", which I haven't seen in about forever.
Saturday was a big day. I traveled with four friends from the German House all over northern Utah. I was the only full American in the car. I just thought that was funny... anywho... We first journeyed to Salt Lake City for a farewell party. We had some time to kill after that before we went to the wedding reception, so we meandered about this fancy new mall. And when I say fancy, I mean it. Not only did they have the standard shops you find around the country, but also crazy stores like Tiffany's and a Porsche merchandise store. I touched a leather jacket that cost more than my first car. It blows my mind that people spend that much money on a jacket. And honestly, it wasn't even that cool.
one of these...
or this...
Really, people? I know exactly which one I'd pick. But then again, I'm not exactly loaded, and rather car-less...
From there, we went on to our friends' wedding reception. Both of them lived in the German House. I just love those two people. Hearts and love and stuff. And guess who caught the bouquet? Me. Me without a boyfriend or any prospects of having one. Needless to say, my loving friends gave me all sorts of crap about it. It is Utah and I do go to BYU... Engagements happen rather quickly. Psh, I learned of four more engagements within a 24 hour period this week. Sheesh, people, let me catch up a bit...
From then we went to this tiny town about 20 miles away from Idaho called Tremonton. We went there because another friend from the German House is going on a mission to Sweden and he was speaking in church today. We watched Aladdin last night. There's a lot of really quotable lines in there that none of us had never noticed before. Now we've all started calling each other things like "my pungent little friend" and "your rottenness" and other lovely things like that. Oh, Jafar...
Today brought us back to the lovely city of Provo. I say that rather sarcastically, since I rarely leave. But I finally met some people from my apartment complex. My roommates and I went to a game night at some guys's apartment. We had a blast! I'm so glad there are wonderful, fun people here. I was beginning to worry a bit, since my last place was so great, and I hadn't met a soul here yet. I'm just glad there are people around. And not only just normal people, but awesome people.
Well, after all these crazy adventures, I should probably sleep. That way I can wake up in time to do something worth posting about. Gosh, it was good to get out of Provo...

Owner of a Lonely Heart
And thus begins my second summer out here... lonely. It's been barely a week since the last day of finals, and I'm already bored to death. I've already started looking for another job, even though I plan on leaving Provo hopefully sometime in the middle of summer. My plans, though, are not even close to concrete. In fact, they're more like... clouds. Nothing is set. I want to go be a nanny in Germany, but I need to find a family first, and that's a work in progress. My housing contract goes through mid-June, so hopefully I'll have a job in Germany by then. I really don't want to have to find another place to live and go through the grueling process of moving all my crap again. I don't want to have a fifth "fresh start" in this state, at least not this summer. So, as you can see, I have a bit of a dilemma on my bored hands. Nothing to do, but any attempts at finding a job for only two months are almost futile. Nevertheless, I'm searching. Just for you doubters out there, I've already turned in four applications and had one interview. That's what 10 miles of biking in one afternoon will get you.
I love my bike. It means freedom. Except... I have absolutely nowhere to go. Ok, that's a little untrue, because I have to go to work in approximately half an hour. But, that's the last shift until who-knows-when. Hence the search for another job.
Goodness, I'm bored.
Weekends mean a lot more when you actually do stuff during the week.
Last night, my roommates and I went to eat dinner at this pizza place and then we saw The Vow in the dollar theater. It's been a very long time since I've seen a chick-flick in a theater- we're talking 2010. My reason, you ask? Freshman year: no money, no car, no bike. This year: my group of friends always went to go see awesome films like Sherlock Holmes 2 or whatever. I miss my friends. We had a really great year together. In fact, we practically became a family. I lived in the Foreign Language Housing this past year. Each language group had dinner together five nights a week. We also hung out a lot. There were times I liked them all, hated some of them for a minute, had to escape for a second, couldn't get enough... just like a family. There was always someone there, and people had your back. So, moving out last week was almost like leaving home for the second time. Frankly, it sucked. I miss them, and speaking German all the time, like crazy.
But hey, life isn't all doom and gloom. I'm going to one of my dearest friend's wedding reception tomorrow. And they will be living about a block away from me after they get back from the honeymoon. And I just happened to end up with my own room, so when my mom visits, she can stay here without inconveniencing anybody. And I should be going to my favorite place in the world soon. See, I'm still somewhat optimistic, right?

And the hours go by like minutes
...especially when there's a lot of homework to be done.
Back to School.
That's a reason I haven't been on here lately. Oh well, not like anybody's waiting for this like it's a Harry Potter book or film... ANYWAYS...
Life's been pretty standard. At least, as standard as it can be as a college student. Classes, homework, and a little bit of good, clean fun here and there :)

So my life has pretty much been invaded by German. That's ok, I wouldn't have it any other way. I have a German phonetics class, the standard language class, and a history of Germany class. Oh, and I live in a dorm where we have to speak German all day. I. Love. It.

I work 'til I ache in my bones
...or feet, rather... that's why I haven't posted this past week. I've finally been getting more shifts. Yay money! Too bad work isn't so much fun. It's a little difficult to have adventures when you have to dump partially-eaten food off plates or sweep and mop large areas. At least this week the radio's been on an oldies station instead of stupid pop... The other mini-adventures I've had this week revolve around my former roommate, who moved out a couple days ago. We ate ice cream type desserts, watched a dollar movie, had photo shoots (involving 80's clothes and 3D glasses, both of which are always adventures) and just had good times.
Today was definitely an adventure. I worked a shift serving pasta, talking with coworkers, and learning how to say "please" and "thank you" in Mandarin. I'll probably forget that very soon... After work, I planned on going to the grocery store, but had a random urge to go to the thrift store across the street first. Thrift stores are always adventures! Even if you have absolutely no money, you can still go and just look for the ugliest clothes ever created, which will surely have found their way to the thrift store you are at. So, basically, that's kinda what I ended up doing. But, I did buy a shirt. And then I went grocery shopping.
On the way home, my lovely bike was hit by a car! DUNDUNDUN!!! I was just crossing an intersection, totally with the right of way since the pedestrian light said I could go, when, all of a sudden, this lady turned right right into me!!! Fortunately for both of us, only my back wheel was damaged. Luckily the lady offered to pay for the new wheel. It was so bent that it wouldn't turn, so there would be no simple repair. After exchanging info, I started attempting to get my bike home, which was about a mile away. Not even a block into the grueling journey (have you ever tried to push a bike with a tire dragging instead of turning? So much fun!), a random woman pulled over and offered to help me by taking my bike somewhere for me. I accepted this offer and she drove me to a bike store to get everything all settled. So, my poor bike will be all better next week. I would not recommended this particular adventure, but it does make life more interesting...

All I wanna do is bicycle bicycle bicycle
Today's adventure came after work. After working in the dish room, any thing remotely fun is wonderful. One shift in the dish room leaves you feeling more disgusting than a week of camping. Ew. Anywho... after work, I took a shower to clean off all the grossness and then decided to sit out on the stairs and read a little before the sun set. Well, the neighbors were gonna go on a bike ride and were outside getting their bikes ready. Then, a branch decided to break off of our tree. So one of the guys came over to check it out. And then he asked if I'd like to go on the ride with them. Thus begins the adventure! We were gonna ride to the lake. We set out along this trail that goes by the river. It reminded me a lot of my time in Germany last summer. Five people on bikes, riding on a trail through trees, by a body of water... flashback!!! There were tunnels on this trail so that bikers/joggers/walkers don't have to cross roads and all that jazz. Thing is, all the snow is melting from the mountains, so one of the tunnels was rather flooded- too much for us to cross. So we went to the park instead. We basically relived elementary school days. We played on the playground, climbed slides, jumped from swings... you name it. It was a blast! Good times... And now we consider ourselves a "bike gang." But only in the sense that we rode our bikes in formations. Whatever. Then we went to have FroYo. Because we really needed to replace all those calories we burned... Yeah. But it was totally worth it!

When the lights go down in the city
Hmmm... what did I do yesterday that was relatively adventurous or somewhat interesting...
I went to the store. Yay food! Our church activity was an international food night, which was very awesome. I made Kartoffelpfannkuchen. Other people brought good food too. Japanese chicken nuggets, nutella, Apfelkuchen (german apple cake)... life was good! After that, I hung out with my friend who is moving in with me. We watched Howl's Moving Castle. That's the strangest love story. Ever. I should also mention that it was in Japanese with English subtitles. My friend loves Japan like I love Germany. Too much :) We also painted our nails. She packed to go home for two weeks. Somehow we stayed up way late. Consequently I got up way late today. Fortunately work isn't until 4ish.
